Qualifications
Required Expectations:
Qualifications include a PhD or equivalent in Health Promotion/Public Health/Health Education or related field. Applicants who are ABD will be considered. Applicants must also have a record of published research or demonstrate research potential, the ability to collaborate within the department and across the university, and the ability to teach and develop both undergraduate and graduate courses related to Health Promotion.

Preferred Expectations:
Applicants should be able to teach Health Promotion courses (BS/MS/PhD), with a preference for Chronic Disease (undergraduate), Health Behavior I and II (graduate), Program Evaluation (undergraduate), but also the ability to teach Research Methods, Lifestyle Intervention, Health Promotion Program Planning, Chronic Disease (graduate), and Measurement and Evaluation in Health Promotion. There is an expected teaching load of 2 courses per semester. A planned research agenda with a focus on health disparities is preferred, however, all areas of public health, community health, and health promotion expertise, such as physical activity/exercise, tobacco use, diet/nutrition, obesity/weight management, or minority health behaviors, will be considered. Ability to obtain external funding to support a research program is preferred. Faculty that can add to the research mission of the department, and have the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues, staff and students and contribute to the diversity of the faculty and department is also preferred.

The Department of Health Education and Behavior at the University of Florida (UF) invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track faculty position at the Full Professor rank. We seek an established scholar with a distinguished research program that addresses health behavior problems common among youths and contributes knowledge relevant to prevention and modification of health-related behavioral risk factors. The Department has established research programs in behavioral aspects of
substance misuse, obesity, HIV/AIDS, health disparities, and digital health applications. Exceptional scholars in these areas will be considered with preference given to the obesity, physical activity, and nutrition areas. Applications are encouraged from candidates who can provide leadership in related research and educational initiatives at UF and beyond, apply theoretical frameworks relevant to health behaviors such as behavioral economics, have strong quantitative or mixed methods research skills, are experienced with multidisciplinary collaboration, and use digital technologies for health promotion research and implementation/dissemination of evidence-based health behavior change programs. Top candidates will be considered for the Mary F. Lane Endowed Professorship and initial tenure based on qualifications.
We are seeking applications from individuals who will: (a) conduct an independent program of research that complements department and college research initiatives, (b) participate in collaborative research programs as appropriate to his/her interests, (c) teach in the department’s educational programs, and (d) contribute significantly to mentoring MS/PhD students. Candidates must have earned their doctorate in health education, health behavior, or an appropriately related field in public health or the social and behavioral sciences prior to faculty appointment. Applicants must exhibit an extensive record of scholarly productivity, extramural funding, and successful mentoring.

This 9-month, full time (1.0 FTE), position that will begin August 16, 2018 or January 1, 2019.
