The Department of Health Studies, with nine full-time faculty, offers the B.S., B.A.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Health Studies. Approximately 325 undergraduate and 100 graduate students are currently enrolled in these programs constituting approximately 12% of the students in the College of Health Sciences. The curricula are designed to prepare graduates to function in a variety of health education and health promotion professional environments, including community, worksite, health care, public health, and academic settings. The Chair is the primary administrator for the Department of Health Studies, representing and promoting the Department to upper administration, appropriate professional organizations, and other communities of interest. The Chair position is a 12-month administrative appointment and reports to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences. Responsibilities include overseeing the department’s fiscal management and budgets, overall program planning and management, and delivery of quality programs at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. The Chair will teach in his/her area of specialization and may maintain an active research program.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated a high level of scholarly achievement, teaching excellence, an established record of research funding, and professional leadership commensurate with a tenured academic appointment. In addition, the individual will be an established academic leader who can facilitate faculty, staff, and student development, foster departmental cohesiveness, and build collaborations with community partners. Qualifications include an earned doctorate in Health Studies, Health Education/Promotion, Public Health, or a related discipline. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience/qualifications.
