Currently, the Gillings School is in transition from the original 8 MPH degrees, administered within departments, to the new Gillings MPH which is one MPH degree and 12 concentrations. Under the new structure, and consistent with expectations of the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), all students enrolled in the Gillings MPH program will complete 42 credits:
The new integrated 12 credit Core was launched in fall 2018 – both residential and online versions; and the new concentrations will begin residentially in fall 2019 (both Leadership in Practice and Nutrition will start online as part of MPH@UNC in 2018-19, and we expect up to 6 other online concentrations to follow). In addition, we offer a distance version of the Gillings MPH in Asheville, NC that may lead to a joint MPH program. Gillings offers a number of departmentally based master’s degrees (MS, MSEE, MHA, MSPH, MSCR).
The duties of this new position will be to teach up to three required Core courses annually. These courses may be in the MPH Core (Fall SPHG courses: 711, 712, 713 or Spring SPHG 721, 722) or the required Foundational Learning Objective (FLO) course for graduate students not in the MPH: SPHG 600 or courses in the new BSPH Core (SPHG 351, 352). Other duties include providing school-wide leadership in implementing and growing all residential, distance (Asheville) and online (MPH@UNC) MPH degree programs, as well as other school-wide Master’s level degree programs. Will have administrative responsibilities overseeing MPH Associate Directors, MPH Practicum Director, and regular work with Academic and Student Affairs team to set up policies and practices for ensuring student success and academic excellence in these innovative degree programs.
There is an opportunity, based on experience, for an administrative supplement to serve as Assistant Dean for Master’s Degrees.
Educational Requirements: MPH degree and relevant doctoral degree in public health discipline.
